ShopRite of Patchogue

Racanelli Construction recently completed a fast-track project on behalf of supermarket veteran Harry Janson and the Wakefern Food Corporation. The company served as General Contractor (GC) in the construction of a new, 70,000 square foot ShopRite supermarket located at 95 Sunrise Highway in Patchogue, New York. Martin J. Racanelli, Jr. served as the Project Executive supported by a project management team led by Mike Marshall and Michelle Bremen.

What made this project unique was that it involved the complete exterior and interior renovation of an existing and previously condemned building. It required Racanelli to apply sound engineering and high quality craftsmanship to restore the building into a fully-functional supermarket. The company also had to effectively address the project schedule’s compressed timeframe which complicated the coordination and installation of extensive underground plumbing.

As GC on the project, Racanelli Construction provided comprehensive services. These services included: demolition, excavation, carpentry, HVAC, electric, plumbing, EIFS, masonry, roofing, flooring, painting, steelwork, fire suppression, as well as full project management and supervision. The finished project featured cold-rolled formed steel construction over structural steel with a wood bow-truss roofing system.

Project Features:

  • 70,000 square foot
  • Mercantile use -one floor
  • Cold-rolled formed steel construction over structural steel
  • Wood bow-truss roofing system
  • Interior featuring wide aisles, prominent signage and large cases

Shoppers at the new ShopRite of Patchogue will experience a supermarket that clearly caters to the customer and the local community. The Janson family-owned store accommodates the community’s ethnic composition with a designated ethnic food aisle featuring Polish, German, Indian and Spanish products, as well as a selection of Hala and Kosher foods. The interior of the store displays wide aisles, large cases and prominent signage for categories such as Dairy, Hot Foods, Brick Oven Pizza, Soup, Fresh Seafood, Dockside Market, Butcher Block, Craft Beverages, etc. accompanying complimentary graphics such as large cows in the Dairy Section, tasty cuts of meat in the Butch Block section and refreshing beverages in the Craft Beverage area. Each aisle has overhead signage listing its merchandise (e.g., Kitchenware, Bakeware, Dessets, Canned Fruit…) marked by a handing lighthouse to reflect the waterfront community of Patchogue.

The new ShopRite of Patchogue brought 400 jobs to the community in addition to a state-of-the-art supermarket that gives local residents a great shopping experience.
